     previously, the traffic engineering and safety facilities design are completed in semi-manual, low efficiency; the design of road signs, markings and so on were almost entirely done manually. the material quantity estimation also relied on electronic tables self-prepared by the designers. when the program was modified several times, errors always were existed in the materials estimation and so on. hintcad traffic engineering and safety facilities cad system started from the point of view of the liberation of designers and improvement of the efficiency of layout, on the basis of route overall design, achieving layout of markings, signs, sign pole and so on, automatic statistics of design, drafting and material quantity by user’s selection, mouse dragging and dropping and so on. meanwhile, the system has self-learning database, all design achievements (drawings, information) having been completed are achievable by the designers at any time in their future design.
      in 2007, design document preparation method of highway infrastructure project was released by china’s ministry of transport, which brings the major changes in traffic engineering, safety facilities and so on into road main design, making the traffic engineering and layout of the safety facilities to fully reflect the route overall design concept and to implement the specific measures of alignment optimization and safety analysis evaluation. hintcad traffic engineering and safety facilities cad system are integrated with highway geometric design module, fully reflecting and implementing the original intention of the new “preparation method”.
